A Season for Gratitude

As we head into this season of gratitude, we took a moment this weekend to reflect on all that we as a PTA have accomplished so far – and wow, has our community been busy! All thanks to you! Back to school events and socials, student programming such as the School Play and Odyssey of the Mind, Run Club and our beloved Westival and Walkathon, just to mention a few. And all in one quarter! We, as a community, truly come together for each other, and we have much to be thankful for here at LES.

In addition to symbolically capping off our first quarter, the recent rains have made our families want to cozy up with a good book… thank goodness it’s Book Swap time! Hopefully your kids brought books in yesterday to trade in for tickets, and today and tomorrow they can peruse the pre-loved selections for some new gems, just in time for the three-day weekend.

While things are slowing down a bit this month for the PTA, do keep an eye out for Food Bank Bins (more details soon), mark your calendars for grade-level holiday parent socials (details below), and let us know what you thought of the first quarter. We are here for you, and we welcome your feedback!

Remember, no school on Friday, 11/10, as we express our gratitude for our Veterans.

Can you help our LES LPIE reps with two asks?
Can you help our LES LPIE reps with two asks?
1. We are looking for a host for a pay-to-play event.  Lisa Anderson from Light Up Fitness has graciously donated a class for each of our Lafayette Schools! We just need someone to “host” each pay to play. The host can decide what they want to do (decorations, snacks, etc) but we need someone to help plan and execute this. It's a 60min mixed exercise class (cardio, strength, yoga, etc). Dates tbd according to Lisa and the hosts schedule.
2. We are looking to nominate one person from each school to sit on our Nominations Committee for next year's board.  Are you social and can help reach out to your social network and community to recruit for the LPIE Board? You don't have to be super-involved in the PTA, but if you have chaired an event and would be willing, we'd love if you'd consider serving on the LPIE nominating committee from Jan-March 2024.
Please reach out to Yuki Jenkins for more information.  THANK YOU!

LPIE & DISTRICT NEWS
Thank You from LPIE
Thanks to all of you, we raised our participation to 44.21% at Lafayette Elementary as of October 17, making strides toward our total fundraising goal for this school year. We appreciate your support and would be unable to deliver vital school programming without your help!
As a reminder, your contributions to LPIE shape our students’ LES experience in a big way every day. Every amount given helps fund science teachers, music teachers, art teachers, teacher aides, and student academic & wellness support services... just to name a few areas of impact.
We sincerely THANK YOU for your continued support of LPIE and our LES community. Together, we can and will continue excellence in education for all Lafayette Leopards. If you haven’t had a chance to donate, please donate or pledge HERE today!

Tuesday, Nov. 14 is Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

image_url preview image

In 1960, when Ruby Bridges was only six years old, she became one of the first Black children to integrate New Orleans’ all white public school system.  As an icon for the civil rights movement, her story has inspired many across the country. On November 14th our school will participate in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, a movement to encourage students across the country to become changemakers at school and in their communities. Join in and walk for Ruby, one step at a time!
