SUBJECT: Leopard Spots Sept. 12: Heroes All Around

Sept. 12, 2023
2023 Parent Party
Our Super Hero Community

HURRAY to all of us for getting our students through the first month of school!  That's no small feat, so let's celebrate ourselves at the LES Parent Party on September 30th! We're talking to YOU especially, TK, Kinder & lower-grade families! In just a few weeks, LES parents & guardians get to kick back, cut loose and/or chill out in fun, relaxed atmosphere with food (taco bar!), beverages, music & dancefloor!

Theme for the night is "Super Heroes" and there are NO COSTUMES REQUIRED!  You will see heroes of every kind: from decked-out super-costume parents, to sweats-&-sneakers super-nonchalant parents, and everything in between. So, come as your Super-Self and have fun with our LES parent community! Grab your ticket today, so the courageous volunteers who make this party happen aren't left stranded!

Last week wrapped with school picture day; many thanks to Danielle De Torres & her amazing team of volunteers for ensuring all teachers and students got their photos taken. Picture Makeup Day will be Nov. 16.  Last week also saw more than 60 parent and student attendees at Odyssey of the Mind (OM) Info Night. Attendees learned about this great program, revived at our school this year thanks to the inexhaustible enthusiasm of our own how-does-she-do-it-all co-President, Andi!  We're so excited to see student teams form and to cheer them on.

See below for details on all you need to know this week.

SCHOOL NEWS & HAPPENINGS
Calling All Superheroes!

(Yep, that's YOU, parents!)

We are so excited for our Annual Parent Party on Saturday, Sept. 30th, 2023! Costumes optional! (Clothing required!)

Come dressed in whatever you happen to have on Saturday afternoon, or dress up as your favorite superhero, or throw on a mask, a hero T-shirt, or whatever makes you feel super (as your SUPER self)!

The point is to have a blast mingling with our LES adult community. Assemble your avengers or come meet some new sidekicks. DJ, drinks, apps, photo station, and more - see details here.

This indestructible good time will be here faster than a speeding bullet, so purchase your ticket/s TODAY, before the Sept. 15 deadline!

NPFH 4th Grade Parent Volunteer Needed ASAP!
We are looking for a 4th grade parent to join Ms. Barclay, Ms. McArthur and 5th grade parent Brooke Peterson on the No Place for Hate Committee.  This is a great volunteer opportunity that gets you involved on campus and interacting with students.  The role entails helping with 3 activities over the course of the year that encompass the NPFH philosophy. Please email Brooke for more information on this role at

ResRun Contest Update

The good news: The most recent tally shows our school in (close) 2nd place for school with most ResRun registrations.

The other news: Our school is only a handful of registrations ahead of third place school Stanley, and... let's just say... quite a few handfulsbehind Burton Valley Elementary (BVE).

Yes, BVE has (almost 300) more students than our school, BUT, just two short years ago, our mighty Leopard community managed to get more registrations than any other school (including BVE!) and WON the September 30th contest!!  Can you help us do it again?!?  Yes, you can!

Please sign-up yourself and your whole family, and encourage all neighbors - whether they have adult children, preschool-age children or no children (i.e., please encourage EVERYONE) to sign up and select Lafayette Elementary School as the school to support: ResRun Signup

Let's close the gap on Burton Valley’s lead!!

Odyssey of the Mind - Commitment Google Forms Due 9/18

Thank you to all who came to last Wednesday's info night; the attendance blew our socks off!

Next Step: We sent out a commitment google form yesterday to the OM interest list about forming teams. If you didn't receive it and would like one, please email Andi at president@pafayettepta.info. Forms are due 9/18/23.

Please remember: Odyssey of the Mind (OM) is a wonderful experience as well as a big time commitment. Please take this level of commitment into consideration, as teammates rely on each other for the entirety of the season. In addition, OM teams, once formed, are not run by LES but rather the parents. Please factor in your own ability to commit as well. Typical level of commitment: teams meet at least once per week for 1-2 hours from October - February. Each team is coached by 1-2 parent coaches, plus additional parent support.

Westival Is 1 Month Away!

image_url preview image

For those new to Lafayette, Westival is our school's quintessential fall carnival (originally the event had a "western" theme, hence the name: Western + Festival = "Westival"). Our campus quad area gets transformed into a pumpkin patch decorated with amazing scarecrows created by each LES class (thanks to parent volunteers from each class - please consider volunteering for this fun activity!).

This year, Westival will be held on Saturday, 10/14, from 1pm-5pm.

At the event, LES families can purchase game tickets (with cash or credit cards) to use for traditional carnival games, the always-popular Cake Walk, bake sale, popcorn, face painting and pumpkins to take home!   Separately, families may bid on one of the many creative scarecrows to proudly display in their home or yard.

Westival is a special community-building event, and your participation is highly encouraged. Please be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities in the weeks to come. Have questions now? Please reach out to event chair, Amy Coombe.
