SUBJECT: Leopard Spots Oct. 10: Westival Time! Family Fun for Everyone!

Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023
It's Time for Westival!

This Friday and Saturday, our school courtyard will transform into our beloved Fall Carnival, Westival! Classroom scarecrows and fall decorations will make their festive debut Friday morning in preparation for the main event on Saturday: our Carnival that includes classic games, a cakewalk, prizes, food, fun with friends, and so much more! It's family fun for everyone! Come anytime this Saturday, Oct. 14th, between 1-5 pm. Many thanks to our Westival Chair, Amy Coombe, without whom none of this would be possible. However, we are still in need of more volunteers to bake cakes, help with pumpkin painting and the bake sale, run games, sell concessions, and more. Please help us out! This is a great volunteer opportunity for middle and high-schoolers, too. Sign-Up Genius is here and more info is below. Thank you in advance!

As you can see from above, volunteers are at the heart of our wonderful PTA programming. It truly takes a village! We are so grateful and thankful for Katie Howard, who ran our successful Advocacy Week last week, Naomi Renbarger, who reminded us all to Walk & Roll to school last Wednesday, Monica Segobia, who is coordinating the School Play (sign-ups tonight!), and Jenean Smith, who is spearheading our Campus Clean-Up on Sunday morning (sign-ups below). And hats off to those parents who are stepping up to bring their classroom scarecrows to life this week – it’s hard work but so worth it!

None of our PTA programming would be possible without the funds raised via Walkathon. Thank you again, LES Families! You did it! A few pledge donations are still coming in, but it's looking like we hit our goal and then some, on track to raise almost $48,000! Morgan Bernstein and Effie Casella, our amazing Walkathon Chairs, for whom we are eternally grateful, have also tabulated the classroom winners. Which class won the Golden Shoes?! The Jamba Juice party?! The pizza parties?! And who ran the most laps?! Drumroll please, and click here to find out!

Let’s make it a great week, Leopards, and we will see you on Saturday at Westival!

Westival is this Saturday, 10/14, from 1-5pm, and we are so excited! But we also NEED YOUR HELP!
Please sign up here to contribute items to the bake sale, provide a cake/s for the cake walk, or help with day-of-event volunteer opportunities. Middle school and high school volunteers are highly encouraged - so please share with your older children & their networks!
Not sure what Westival is? Westival is our school's quintessential fall carnival (originally the event had a "western" theme, hence the name: Western + Festival = "Westival"). Click the orange MORE button below for important info!

Coming Soon! PTA Help with the 2024 Volunteer Requirements
Coming Soon! PTA Help with the 2024 Volunteer Requirements

Do you love volunteering in your child's classroom? Helping out in the library? Driving on a field trip?  Are you unsure when you'll be able to complete all the new, updated volunteer requirements? Have no fear, PTA is here!

As many of you know, the Lafayette School District has updated requirements for both on-campus & chaperone/driver volunteering to include additional safety and health screenings. We know that some of these requirements and the related paperwork will take some time and effort, and so the PTA is stepping in to assist.

Coming Soon: PTA email with a clear outline of what's required and easy-to-use instructions to complete each step, as well as a signup for quick 3-minute, on-site TB Screening appointments!

Some of our amazing healthcare professional LES parents are volunteering their time at Westival this Saturday to assist with one of the new requirements: a TB Risk Assessment administered and signed off on by a licensed healthcare professional (*this is not TB Testing! Just a few quick risk evaluation questions). Previous requirements allowed for a volunteer to self-screen, fill out their own TB risk-assessment form and submit it to school for review.

TB Screening is required for anyone who volunteers 8 or more hours on campus each school year. That's a lot of us! We're excited to be able to make this step of the updated requirements easier for our community. Please stay tuned!

ResRun is less than two weeks away!  Please continue to sign up your friends and family, as LES receives a portion of all fees of registrations that designate LES as their school to support.  Are you part of a scout troop? Or maybe you want to complete the 2 mile fun walk as a class? Groups of 10 or more get a discount of 10% off each registration.  Please sign up if you already haven’t!

Since the Lafayette Chamber gives back a portion of registrations back to the schools, they are requesting each school recruit 10 total volunteers for either Set-up or Clean Up/Take Down.
