Today is Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! |
Today is Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! Wear purple & walk to campus in her honor! In 1960, when Ruby Bridges was only six years old, she became one of the first Black children to integrate New Orleans’ all white public school system. As an icon for the civil rights movement, her story has inspired many across the country. On November 14th our school will participate in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, a movement to encourage students across the country to become changemakers at school and in their communities. Join in and walk for Ruby, one step at a time! |

Flash Food Drive This Week! |
There are two food donation bins from the Contra Costa Food Bank (CCFB) right outside the LES office –- can you please help us fill them up with non-perishable food this week? The food collected provides a greater variety of groceries for the community members served by the Contra Costa Food Bank. They serve all people experiencing hunger or food insecurity in Solano and Contra Costa counties and they commit to never turn anyone away. Here is a list of great food item donation options. CCFB will pick up all donations and the food bins this Friday, November 17th, so please don’t wait to bring those items in. Thank you!

The book swap was a huge success! A monumental thank you to Sam Patath & Jenean Smith for all of their hard work coordinating this three-day event! They turned our Library Courtyard into a book store, with books organized by age and genre, which was not an easy task! Thank you also to all the volunteers who staffed the swap store! The selection of books was stellar - thank you, LES community! - and kids were truly enjoying perusing the tables for pre-loved gems, of which there were tons. Many students brought home shopping bags stuffed with new stories and adventures. Click "more" for pictures from the event! |

Can you help our LES LPIE reps with two asks? |
1. We are looking for a host for a pay-to-play event. Lisa Anderson from Light Up Fitness has graciously donated a class for each of our Lafayette Schools! We just need someone to “host” each pay to play. The host can decide what they want to do (decorations, snacks, etc) but we need someone to help plan and execute this. It's a 60min mixed exercise class (cardio, strength, yoga, etc). Dates tbd according to Lisa and the hosts schedule. 2. We are looking to nominate one person from each school to sit on our Nominations Committee for next year's board. Are you social and can help reach out to your social network and community to recruit for the LPIE Board? You don't have to be super-involved in the PTA, but if you have chaired an event and would be willing, we'd love if you'd consider serving on the LPIE nominating committee from Jan-March 2024. Please reach out to Yuki Jenkins for more information. THANK YOU! |
