Exciting News About New Foundational Literacy Program

Following months of review and investigation, the Lafayette School District’s Early Literacy Team has recommended a new foundational literacy program for our students in our early primary classes called Heggerty Bridge to Reading. Bridge to Reading will provide a comprehensive and research-based supplement to the District's literacy curricula. The team provided a presentation about the program at the January Governing Board meeting, and a recording of the presentation is linked here. More information about Bridge to Reading is available at the publisher's website, linked here.

Our next step in the implementation of this new program will be to request Board approval at the February 21, 2024 Governing Board meeting. If approved, professional development for all K-2 teachers, specialists, coaches, and aides would begin on the next Professional Development Day in March, 2024 and continue in August, 2024, and we would implement the program at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

If you have any questions about this new program, please contact Betsy Balmat, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, at bbalmat@lafsd.org.
